FORT McMURRAY — Snow removal crews will be active in Winter Maintenance Subzones 3 and 4 from Feb. 2 to 6 as the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo continues citywide winter maintenance.
On-street parking restrictions will be in effect in the active subzones from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., with residents asked to watch for temporary no parking signs. Vehicles left in active areas or in zones marked by temporary signage are subject to a $120 violation ticket plus towing fees.
The municipality says snow removal has now been completed at least once on all streets in Subzones 1 and 2 this winter. Crews are expected to return to those areas during the next scheduled activation from Feb. 9 to 13, prioritizing streets most in need of maintenance when access is available.
Additional snow removal is also planned over the weekend as conditions allow. Temporary no parking signs will be posted 24 hours in advance, and vehicles must be removed until signage is taken down.
In Timberlea, crews will continue snow removal operations through the weekend of Jan. 31 and Feb. 1 in Subzones 3 and 4. Snow clearing is also scheduled on busier primary, secondary and tertiary streets in Timberlea not included in the Winter Maintenance Zone program. Temporary no parking restrictions will apply in those areas as well.
Municipal officials say crews are working to complete as many roads as possible, noting windrows may be left on streets overnight. Residents are advised not to park on streets where windrows remain, as crews will return the following day to remove them.
As of this week, the municipality reports snow removal has been completed on about 94 per cent of Winter Maintenance Zone streets. Subzones 1 and 2 are 100 per cent complete, while Subzone 3 is about 84 per cent complete and Subzone 4 about 90 per cent complete.
Crews recently completed snow removal on several streets, including Laurier Lane, Smallwood Bay, St. Laurent Way, Laurier Place, Dickey Bay, Smallwood Street, Fox Crescent, Crown Creek Lane, Cottonwood Creek Way, Paris Crescent, Iris Way, Wild Rose Street, Beaton Place and Bergeron Road.
