FORT MCMURRAY — Porter Airlines will not launch its previously announced non-stop service between Fort McMurray and Ottawa this spring after revising its network plans for the upcoming season.
The Fort McMurray Airport Authority says it has been advised by Porter the route between Fort McMurray International Airport and Ottawa International Airport will not proceed as planned, as the airline shifts its focus in 2026 toward strengthening existing markets.
The airport authority says Porter is directing new capacity toward seasonal destinations, routes supporting connectivity with airline partners and the continued development of hub airports, including the Montreal Metropolitan Airport.
Porter has indicated it remains interested in the Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo region and will continue discussions with the airport authority and the community as it evaluates future service opportunities.
Fort McMurray Airport Authority president and chief executive officer Denean Robinson said the decision is disappointing for the community and the airport.
She said the authority respects Porter’s current network priorities and remains encouraged by the airline’s continued interest in the region, adding the airport hopes to welcome Porter when timing allows.
The airport authority says it continues to advocate with existing and prospective airline partners to expand air service at Fort McMurray International Airport.
It points to the recent launch of non-stop flights to Vancouver on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays with Air Canada as an example of those efforts, and says it remains focused on improving connectivity while supporting jobs, local spending and the airport’s role as a gateway to northern Alberta.
