EDMONTON — A minor league baseball coach from Bonnyville, Alta., is facing multiple charges following an Internet Child Exploitation investigation, Alberta law enforcement officials say.
Michel “Mitch” Michaud, 48, was arrested Jan. 28 with assistance from the Bonnyville RCMP as part of an investigation by the Internet Child Exploitation unit of Alberta Law Enforcement Response Teams.
Police say Michaud is charged with possession, access and distribution of child sexual abuse and exploitation material, as well as one count of bestiality.
Investigators say Michaud is a coach with the Bonnyville Braves.
Staff Sgt. Alison Church of ALERT’s ICE unit said the allegations are upsetting for athletes, parents and the baseball community, but investigators do not believe any players were involved. She said Michaud was in a position of trust and authority and the investigation remains ongoing.
Police say several electronic devices, including a cellphone and laptop computer, were seized and will undergo forensic examination.
The investigation began in 2025 after ICE received reports showing child sexual abuse and exploitation material had been uploaded and shared online. Michaud was identified by investigators in November 2025.
He has been released on court-ordered conditions, including a prohibition on seeking or maintaining any employment or volunteer role involving people under the age of 16. Michaud is scheduled to appear in Bonnyville provincial court on Feb. 24, 2026.
