Health Canada has issued a recall for two lots of the blood pressure drug MAR-Amlodipine 5 mg after finding that some bottles may contain the wrong pills – specifically midodrine tablets, which are used to raise low blood pressure instead of treating high blood pressure.
MAR-Amlodipine is commonly prescribed to help manage high blood pressure and chest pain. Taking midodrine by mistake could lead to dangerous spikes in blood pressure, dizziness, fainting or other serious side effects, especially for those with other health conditions.
If you or someone you care for is taking MAR-Amlodipine, check your bottle right away. The recalled lots (2472021 and 2472021A, expiring July 2027) may contain the wrong tablets. If you spot any unusual pills or are unsure, return the medication to your pharmacy and don’t take the round tablets.
Always contact a health-care professional or call emergency services if you experience symptoms like dizziness, very high blood pressure, slow heartbeat, chest pain or sudden headaches.
