FORT McMURRAY — Boyle RCMP are advising motorists to avoid all highway travel as heavy snow, whiteout conditions and extreme cold impact northeastern Alberta, including Highway 63, the main artery linking Fort McMurray and Edmonton. Police say every highway in the Boyle area is reporting poor conditions and increased collision risk, with even slow-moving vehicles encountering near-zero visibility.
Environment Canada has issued snowfall and extreme cold warnings for the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo near Fort McMurray and Anzac, forecasting 10 to 20 centimetres of snow and wind chills near minus 40. Officials warn travel will likely be challenging with rapidly deteriorating conditions and are urging residents to stay home until weather improves.
