FORT McMURRAY — Mail delivery in Fort McMurray was suspended Wednesday as severe winter weather swept through the region.
Canada Post issued a red delivery service alert for the community, citing safety concerns amid heavy snow, high winds and extreme cold.
A red service alert means delivery agents are not sent out and those already on route are recalled. Mail collection is also suspended. Service will resume once conditions improve and it is safe to do so.
The alert applies to a specific community or an entire province, depending on the scope of a weather event. Wednesday’s notice was posted to the company’s delivery service alerts webpage and shared on social media platforms.
Customers are encouraged to clear ice and snow from walkways, stairs and driveways to ensure safe access to front doors once service resumes.
Those with questions about delivery can contact Canada Post customer service online or by telephone.
