EDMONTON — Noah and Olivia continue to top Alberta’s baby name charts, extending long running streaks in 2025.
Provincial data released Tuesday show Noah was the most popular name for boys for the seventh consecutive year, with 259 registrations. Olivia led the girls’ list for the 13th straight year, with 173 babies given the name.
Amelia ranked second for girls with 161 registrations, followed by Emma at 150 and Charlotte at 149. Violet rounded out the top five. On the boys’ side, Theodore climbed to second place with 204 registrations, followed by Oliver at 184, Henry at 180 and Jack and Lucas tied for fifth at 153 each.
More than 52,000 births were registered in Alberta in 2025, with parents choosing more than 14,500 unique names.
The girls’ top 10 saw several changes. Amelia reclaimed second spot, while Ava fell out of the top 10 for the first time in more than a decade, dropping to 22nd place. Eliana entered the top 10 for the first time, ranking eighth with 104 babies. Chloe, Evelyn and Lily each recorded 100 registrations.
Among boys’ names, Theodore surged from fourth to second, marking its highest ranking yet. Liam slipped from third to seventh, while Muhammad and James joined the top 10. Levi was the only repeat name in the bottom half of the list.
Officials said film, television and pop culture continue to influence parents, with names such as Khaleesi, Zendaya and Beckham appearing on the registry. Others drew inspiration from Greek mythology, choosing Artemis and Zephyr, or from nature, selecting Azalea, Magnolia and Sparrow.
Some families opted for names reflecting optimism, including Faith, Joy and Treasure. Others turned to Alberta heritage, including Jasper and Rose, the province’s official floral emblem.
