FORT McMURRAY, AB – Wood Buffalo RCMP are investigating a road rage incident that escalated into a weapons complaint earlier this week. Police say on February 18, 2026, at approximately 9:12 a.m., officers were dispatched to the Abasand area after receiving a report that a driver had allegedly chased another motorist while armed with a sword.
According to RCMP, the victim reported being followed from the Timberlea area of Fort McMurray into Abasand. Once there, the suspect exited his vehicle carrying a sword and confronted the victim, allegedly yelling that they had been cut off in traffic. The victim was able to get to safety and no injuries were reported.
The suspect left the area before police arrived in what is described as a 2002 light brown Nissan Pathfinder.
Police continue to investigate and are asking anyone with information about the suspect or vehicle to contact Wood Buffalo RCMP or contact Crime Stoppers anonymously. The suspect is described as a thin, Caucasian male, approximately 5’10” tall and around 40 years old.
