CALGARY — The Pathways Alliance industry group has changed its name to the Oil Sands Alliance as it looks to emphasize its broader mandate of supporting growth in Canada’s oil sands sector.
The organization says the Pathways name will now be used exclusively for the proposed carbon dioxide transportation and storage hub, which will continue to operate under the title Pathways Project.
In a statement, the group said the new name better reflects its work promoting policies and investment aimed at strengthening the oil sands industry and Canada’s economy.
Oil Sands Alliance represents five major producers — Canadian Natural, Cenovus Energy, ConocoPhillips Canada, Imperial and Suncor — and says it works with governments, Indigenous communities and other stakeholders to support a competitive oil sands sector.
The organization says the proposed Pathways Project remains a key focus as companies continue discussions with federal and provincial governments. The project involves plans for a carbon dioxide transportation network and storage hub intended to support emissions reduction efforts in the oil sands.
The name change follows earlier collaboration between industry groups, including a merger in 2022 involving the Canadian Oil Sands Innovation Alliance, which now continues as the innovation arm of the organization.
The Pathways Project was referenced in a memorandum of understanding signed by the Alberta and federal governments in November 2025 aimed at supporting energy industry growth and economic development.
