FORT McMURRAY — Keyano College has appointed longtime educator Dr. Mark Dolmont as its new vice-president of academic and student experience.
The college says Dolmont will take on the role starting May 25.
Dolmont has lived and worked in the Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo region for nearly two decades, holding leadership roles in both the public and Catholic school systems.
Most recently, he served as acting director of teaching and learning with the Fort McMurray Public School Division, where he oversaw system-level initiatives focused on student achievement.
He previously served as principal of École McTavish Public High School during a period of significant growth that saw enrolment approach 1,800 students.
Dolmont also has post-secondary experience, including work as a sessional instructor at Keyano College and as the inaugural co-ordinator of graduate recruitment and student retention at the University of New Brunswick.
He holds degrees in science and education from St. Francis Xavier University, a master of education from the University of New Brunswick and a doctor of education in educational leadership from Western University.
His doctoral research focused on supporting Indigenous students and advancing inclusive education practices.
Keyano College president Dr. Scott MacPherson said Dolmont’s experience and ties to the region make him a strong addition to the leadership team.
“Dr. Dolmont’s deep roots in this region, paired with his dedication to student success, make him an exceptional addition to our leadership team,” MacPherson said in a statement.
Dolmont said he is looking forward to working with faculty, staff and community partners to strengthen academic programs and expand opportunities for learners in the region.
