FORT McMURRAY — A water leak caused by a dislodged fire hydrant flooded parts of a Timberlea neighbourhood and affected several homes on Wednesday.
On March 18, 2026, municipal crews responded to a situation on Brett Drive, near the storm pond between Berens Place and Brosseau Crescent, where water was flowing at an estimated rate of about 200 litres per second.
Officials say snow and ice limited drainage, leading to pooling on the roadway and water entering some nearby properties.
The hydrant valve was shut off and the leak contained. Brett Drive has since reopened to traffic.
Underground Services has contacted affected homeowners, and Insurance Services is prepared to assist with claims.
A permanent repair is expected to be completed in the spring when ground conditions improve.
