The Canadian government has banned all Tiktok operations in the country, but that doesn’t mean you can’t continue to use it.
The two offices (one in Vancouver, the other in Toronto) have been shut down due to a National Security risk, which comes almost 2 years after Tiktok was banned on all government devices in February of 2023. Then, later in the year, the Canadian government ordered a national security review of the app – and this is the result.
ByteDance is the company that owns Tiktok, and are reported to be subject to the Chinese government. According to their privacy policy they can collect data on users, such as their location, IP address, search history and how they engage with content on the platform, which builds a profile on you.
