This weekend marks the last chance to travel the Fort Chipewyan Winter Road before it closes for the season on March 31. Until then, vehicles up to 45,000 kg can only use the road overnight. Daytime use by vehicles over 5,000 kg is prohibited and subject to fines. Light vehicles can still travel at any time. Drivers should expect rough road conditions and longer travel times. Crews will continue working to maintain the road until it closes, but traveling on the winter road after March 31 is strictly prohibited and dangerous.
