Smoke alarm credited for alerting resident to late-night mobile home fire in Fort McMurray
FORT McMURRAY, Alta. — A smoke alarm is being credited for helping a Fort McMurray resident escape a late-night fire that caused extensive damage to a mobile home on Cree Road.
Regional Emergency Services says it received a 911 call shortly before midnight on Tuesday after the homeowner was woken by the alarm and discovered the back side of the mobile home was on fire.
The lone occupant fled the home and called for help. When firefighters arrived, they found the blaze had already spread into the attic, making it difficult to control. Crews battled the fire for more than an hour before finally extinguishing it in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
While the home sustained heavy damage, no injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
