Sport Check Shoplifting Suspects
One suspect arrested in downtown Sport Chek thefts, second still at large
FORT MCMURRAY, AB. — One man is in custody following recent thefts from the Sport Chek store in downtown Fort McMurray, as RCMP continue to investigate a second incident at the same location.
Police arrested 53-year-old Steven Linthorne on Wednesday afternoon after spotting him in an alley near McLeod and MacIver Streets around 3:50 p.m. RCMP say Linthorne briefly fled on foot but was taken into custody without further incident.
Linthorne is charged with theft under $5,000 and resisting arrest. He was denied bail and remains in custody ahead of a scheduled court appearance on June 16 in Fort McMurray.
The charges stem from a June 3 theft from the store. RCMP had identified the suspect and were actively searching for him when he was located downtown.
Meanwhile, police continue investigating a separate theft reported at the same Sport Chek on May 12. The suspect in that case has not yet been identified.
Anyone with information about the earlier theft is asked to contact Wood Buffalo RCMP at 780-788-4040 or call Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477, or online at www.P3Tips.com.
