RMWB to open Reflections Lookout, honouring wildfire resilience
FORT McMURRAY— The Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo is inviting residents to gather next week for the official opening of Reflections Lookout, a new community park built to honour the resilience shown during and after the 2016 wildfire.
The event takes place on Tuesday, July 15, at the northeast corner of Beacon Hill Drive. Community members, dignitaries and local leaders are expected to attend the ceremony, which will include light refreshments and the first official walk along the scenic trail to the lookout.
Reflections Lookout was created with input from the community and is designed as a peaceful space for remembrance and reflection. The park features quiet areas and pathways that overlook a forest gradually recovering from the wildfire that forced the largest evacuation in Alberta’s history.
The RMWB says the site serves as both a tribute to the strength of residents and a symbol of nature’s slow but steady renewal. More information about the event is available at rmwb.ca or through the municipality’s social media pages.
