Fort McMurray–The union representing approximately 10,000 Air Canada flight attendants may signal its intent to strike if a deal isn’t reached by the end of today.
Under federal labour rules, the earliest a strike could begin is Saturday at 12:01 a.m. ET, but the union must give 72 hours’ notice—meaning a strike notice could come as early as Wednesday at 12:01 a.m. ET.
Air Canada says it’s still at the bargaining table and remains focused on reaching a negotiated settlement to avoid any disruption to travel.
For now, flights are operating as scheduled. The airline says it will notify customers by email and text if any changes affect their travel plans.
The Fort McMurray airport is serviced by “Air Canada Rouge” a different bargaining unit, so flights in and out of the region should be unaffected.
