Starting August 22, 2025, the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo (RMWB) is launching a revamped transit system—designed to be more responsive, frequent, and user-friendly. Here’s what’s changing:
1. All Existing Routes Are Being Retired

Current bus routes will be discontinued and replaced with a fresh network: two high-frequency core routes, multiple neighbourhood routes, and a flexible Transit On Demand services.
2. Core Routes

There are two main routes:

Route 1: Thickwood ↔ Gregoire

Route 2: Timberlea ↔ Keyano

Operating hours:

Weekdays: 5 a.m. to midnight

Weekends & holidays: 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Frequency:

Every 15 minutes during peak times (6–9 a.m., 3–6 p.m.)

Every 25 minutes during off-peak hours

3. Neighbourhood Routes: Link to Core

Seven neighbourhood routes will feed into the core network during high-demand periods.

Available daily from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.

During quieter times, On Demand handles the gaps

5. Specialized Transit Gets a Makeover

Previously called SMART Bus, this service now integrates into On Demand.

6. School Routes Still Here, With a Twist

High school pickup/drop-off continues—just with new route numbers.

7. Downtown Hub Update

The Main Street Transit Terminal will close permanently on August 22.
