Fort McMurray to host free hazardous waste and electronics roundup Sept. 13
FORT McMURRAY, Alta. — Residents can drop off old electronics, household chemicals and other hazardous items at a free collection event this weekend.
The Household Hazardous and Electronic Waste Roundup runs Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the parking lot of Centerfire Place, 110 Eymundson Road.
Organizers say the annual roundup offers a safe and convenient way to dispose of items that should not go in curbside garbage or recycling bins. Cylinders and batteries can rupture or leak under pressure, while chemicals can pose risks to landfill staff and contaminate soil or water. Electronics also require proper handling to recover materials and prevent pollution.
Examples of accepted items include paint, engine oil, propane tanks, fire extinguishers, fluorescent bulbs, electronics such as TVs and computers, and all sizes of batteries. A full list is available at rmwb.ca/collectionevents.
Hazardous and electronic materials can also be dropped off year-round at the Regional Landfill’s Public Drop Off.
The event is sponsored by the Alberta Recycling Management Authority. More information is available by calling PULSE at 780-743-7000 or visiting rmwb.ca/collectionevents.
