Winning Split raffle raises more than $55,000 for air ambulance and mental health services
FORT MCMURRAY, AB. — A community raffle has raised more than $55,000 in support of air ambulance and mental health services in the Wood Buffalo region.
Organizers say the Winning Split 50/50 Raffle collected $55,440, with half going to the Local HERO Foundation and the Canadian Mental Health Association Wood Buffalo. The winning ticket, D-30991, belongs to Angele D., who receives the other half of the pot.
“This initiative reminded us just how strongly this community believes in taking care of its own,” said Lorna Ash, executive director of the Local HERO Foundation. “Every ticket purchase helps keep HERO1 in the air, ensuring that the lifesaving helicopter emergency medical service is always available when and where it’s needed most.”
Monica Viel, manager of operations for CMHA Wood Buffalo, said the funds will directly support local mental health programs. “We’re grateful to everyone who bought a ticket or helped spread the word. This raffle shows how much our community values mental wellness and care,” she said.
The raffle was held during Ribfest 2025 and included sponsorship from Birch Mountain Enterprises, which provided operational and outreach support.
