Letter to parents outlines plan for staff to disconnect outside school hours
FORT MCMURRAY, AB. — The Fort McMurray Public School Division is implementing a new policy aimed at improving work-life balance for its teachers and staff.
In a letter sent to parents on Friday, the division announced its new Digital Wellness Plan, which takes effect immediately and is designed to help school employees disconnect from work after hours, on weekends and during holidays.
Under the plan, staff are not expected to reply to emails, texts or other work-related messages outside regular hours. Weekday boundaries are set from 6 p.m. to 7:30 a.m., with exceptions only for emergencies covered by existing school procedures.
Officials say the change is meant to address concerns that constant digital connectivity contributes to burnout, stress and reduced productivity, which can ultimately affect students and families.
