EDMONTON — Alberta RCMP issued nearly two thousand tickets over the Thanksgiving long weekend as part of a nationwide traffic safety campaign.
During Operation Impact 2025, officers handed out 1,918 tickets across provincial highways, including 841 for speeding, 55 for distracted driving, and 13 for seatbelt violations. Police also removed 106 drivers from the road for being impaired by drugs or alcohol.
The enforcement blitz was part of the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police’s annual campaign aimed at making Canada’s roads the safest in the world. This year’s theme was “Safety is in MY hands.”
RCMP reported 45 injury collisions across Alberta but no fatalities during the long weekend.
“The Alberta RCMP would like to remind drivers that traffic safety is everyone’s responsibility,” said Sgt. Darrin Turnbull of Alberta RCMP Traffic. “We thank those who helped keep themselves and others safe by following the rules of the road this Thanksgiving.”
The RCMP continues to share traffic safety information on social media at @RCMPinAlberta on Facebook and @RCMPAlberta on X.
