Fort McMurray, AB — Residents across the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo will head to the polls on Monday, Oct. 20, to elect a mayor, councillors and school trustees. Voting stations will be open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., and voters must cast their ballots at a designated location within their ward.
Voters are encouraged to visit rmwb.ca/election to find information about voting locations, identification requirements and candidate profiles.
Because of new provincial rules requiring hand-counted ballots, the municipality says results will not be available on election night. Ongoing tallies will also not be shared. Unofficial results are expected to be announced on Tuesday, Oct. 21.
Eligible voters must bring identification showing their name and current address, such as a driver’s licence, insurance card, credit card statement or government cheque.
This year, voters will receive separate ballots for mayor, councillors and school trustees in Wards 1 and 3, instead of a single combined ballot used in the last municipal election.
Election Day voting stations include SMS Equipment Place, the Quality Hotel, Keyano Syncrude Sport & Wellness Centre, Doug Barnes Cabin and the Suncor Energy Centre for the Performing Arts in Fort McMurray. Other locations include Mamawi Hall in Fort Chipewyan, the Fort McKay Community Centre, Vista Ridge in Saprae Creek Estates, the Anzac Recreation Centre, Conklin Multiplex and the Janvier Municipal Office.
