TORONTO — Toys“R”Us Canada says it is investigating a cybersecurity breach that exposed customer information from part of its database.
The company says the incident was discovered July 30 after a third party claimed online to have stolen data from its systems. Cybersecurity experts were hired to contain the breach and determine the extent of the exposure.
Toys“R”Us says the affected data may include customer names, addresses, emails and phone numbers, but no passwords or credit card information were compromised. The retailer says it has no evidence that the information has been used fraudulently.
The company says it has reported the matter to privacy regulators and added new security measures to prevent similar incidents.
Toys“R”Us is advising customers to remain cautious of phishing or spoofing attempts, avoid sharing personal details in unsolicited messages and contact customer service at customerservice@toysrus.ca if they receive suspicious communications.
The company apologized for the breach and said it remains committed to strengthening its cybersecurity protections.
