FORT McMURRAY — The Fort McMurray Chamber of Commerce celebrated business excellence Thursday night, recognizing companies and community leaders from across the region at its annual Business Awards.
Held at Keyano Theatre and supported by sponsors including Cooper and Company Law Firm, MNP and ATB, the event showcased the achievements of local businesses contributing to the region’s economy. More than 4,900 public votes were submitted for People’s Choice awards among nearly 200 nominees.
Winners included Integral Maintenance Systems for Emerging Entrepreneur, FMT Sales for Franchise, and Coverall Uniform Linen and Mats for Corporate Social Collaboration. FOY Medi Spa received the Youth in Business Award. Aurora Training Corp earned the Adaptation Award.
Acden Environment took home the Indigenous-Owned Business Award and Large Business of the Year, while Acden Vertex earned the Environment and Sustainability Award. Katie Ekroth of 20|20 Management and RE/MAX Connect received the Female Leadership Award. The Athabasca Tribal Council Cultural Festival was honoured for Hospitality and Tourism.
People’s Choice Small Business of the Year went to Second Cup Café, Medium to Large Business to Landmark Cinemas Fort McMurray, and Business Leader of the Year to Shawn Chaulk of Stratford Contracting. Tavern on Main was named Small Business of the Year and Cooper and Company received Medium Business of the Year as well as the Lifetime Business Achievement Award.
Chamber president and CEO Dianna de Sousa said the awards celebrated creativity and determination driving the region forward, while board chair Crystal Young said the success of local businesses strengthens the entire community.
The Chamber represents more than 600 members across the Wood Buffalo region.
