OTTAWA— Nearly 100,000 Toyota and Lexus vehicles have been recalled across Canada due to a software issue that may cause rearview cameras to malfunction.
Transport Canada said in a notice that under certain conditions, a software problem could cause the rear camera image to freeze or fail to display when the vehicle is shifted into reverse. Federal regulations require the camera image to appear while reversing.
The agency warned that if the camera image does not appear correctly, it could reduce a driver’s ability to see behind the vehicle, increasing the risk of a collision.
The recall affects 99,178 vehicles equipped with panoramic view monitoring systems.
Toyota said it will notify owners in writing and advise them to bring their vehicles to a dealership for a software update.
