Province funds energy-efficient lighting upgrade at Vista Ridge
FORT McMURRAY, Alta. — The Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo has received $260,000 from the Alberta government to upgrade lighting at Vista Ridge All Seasons Park in an effort to cut energy use and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
The funding comes through the Municipal Climate Change Action Centre’s Community Energy Conservation Program.
The project will see modern, energy-efficient lighting installed at the municipally owned recreation facility. The work is expected to lower long-term electricity consumption and operational costs. The municipality is working with the Vista Ridge Recreational Association to complete the upgrades.
“This investment demonstrates how even small-scale infrastructure upgrades can have meaningful impacts when it comes to energy efficiency,” said Toni Elliott, acting director of community services for the municipality. “We’re thankful to the Government of Alberta and our partners at the MCCAC for their continued support in helping municipalities lead climate action on the ground.”
The Community Energy Conservation Program helps municipalities improve the energy performance of local facilities.
The Municipal Climate Change Action Centre is a partnership between Alberta Municipalities, the Rural Municipalities of Alberta and the provincial government.
