(Wood Buffalo, Alberta) – Fort Chipewyan RCMP have laid an aggravated assault charge after a shooting in the community on November 11.
Police say officers were called around 3:41 p.m. following a third-party complaint of a possible shooting. Responding members located a victim at a residence on Robert Drive with what appeared to be a gunshot wound to the foot.
The victim was transported by ambulance to the Nunee Health Clinic with non-life-threatening injuries.
At approximately 5:20 p.m., RCMP located the suspected shooter at the Fort Chipewyan Airport. They were arrested without incident and taken into custody.
Mounties have charged a 21-year-old Fort Chipewyan resident with one count of aggravated assault. Voyageur was held for a Judicial Interim Hearing, remanded into custody, and is scheduled to appear in the Alberta Court of Justice in Fort Chipewyan on November 15, 2025.
Investigators say the suspect and victim were known to each other.
The investigation continues with support from Wood Buffalo RCMP Forensic Identification Services and the Indigenous Liaison Unit.
