Fort McMurray – A longtime local volunteer and business leader has been honoured by the Ukrainian Canadian Congress Alberta Provincial Council.
Pinkney Financial says its founder, Wayne Pinkney, has received the 2025 Hetman Leadership Award as well as the Ukrainian Crisis Humanitarian Aid Award. The annual Hetman Awards, created in 1998, recognize significant volunteer achievements of outstanding Ukrainian Albertans and celebrate the people who help keep Ukrainian communities in Alberta strong, vibrant and active.
Each honouree is recognized in the symbolic tradition of Ukraine’s historic Hetmans, leaders who fought for generations for their country’s independence and cultural preservation. The awards are considered one of the highest volunteer distinctions within Alberta’s Ukrainian community.
Pinkney has been active in humanitarian work for decades, supporting community programs, relief initiatives and local organizations focused on helping families and people in crisis.
In a statement, he said being recognized by the Ukrainian community is deeply meaningful and that the honour serves as a reminder that even small acts of service can lift others up. He added that everyone has a role to play in building resilient and caring communities.
Pinkney Financial says the awards reflect his long-standing commitment to giving back and his belief that community service is essential to a stronger Alberta.
