FORT McMURRAY — A downtown commercial hub has been left with what appears to be massive damage after a front end loader was driven straight into the Townhall building early Saturday morning, forcing several businesses to close for the time being.
RCMP say the call came in at 3:26 a.m. on November 15. A Komatsu loader had been taken and driven forcefully into the corner of the building, carving deep into the structure and leaving debris scattered across the area. The machine was also on fire when emergency crews arrived.
Regional Emergency Services responded and extinguished the blaze, which was either caused by or connected to the impact. No injuries were reported and no other vehicles in the parking lot were damaged.
Cpl. Gina Slaney says the investigation is ongoing, and Harvard Media will update this story as more information becomes available.
