FORT McMURRAY — Keyano College has appointed Dr. Scott MacPherson as its next president and chief executive officer.
The board of governors says MacPherson will begin the role on Dec. 8 following a national search. He is currently dean of the School of Business and Creative Industries at Nova Scotia Community College and previously spent more than a decade at SAIT in Calgary, including as dean of the School of Construction.
The college says MacPherson brings extensive experience in polytechnic and community college education, along with earlier work in the construction, energy and IT sectors that often brought him to Fort McMurray. Board vice chair Kim Farwell says his background and leadership skills make him well suited to guide Keyano through its next phase of growth.
MacPherson says he looks forward to returning to Alberta and leading what he calls a critical northern Alberta institution. He says his focus will be preparing learners with both technical knowledge and adaptable skills to succeed in a changing workforce. He plans to move to Fort McMurray in the coming weeks, with his family joining him at the end of the school year.
MacPherson succeeds interim president and CEO Dr. Sandra Efu. The board thanked Efu for her leadership during the transition period.
Keyano College serves students at its Clearwater Campus and the Suncor Energy Industrial Centre, offering certificates, diplomas, trades training and degree programs across multiple fields.
