FORT MCMURRAY–Wood Buffalo RCMP have arrested two people following a robbery at the Real Canadian Superstore in downtown Fort McMurray.
Police say the incident happened on Sunday, November 16, around 8:20 a.m. Officers responded after receiving a report that a man and woman had left the store without paying for several items.
When staff confronted them outside, the man allegedly produced an edged weapon and threatened to stab an employee. The suspects then fled the area on foot. No injuries were reported.
Investigators say the male suspect was known to the employee, and descriptions of both individuals were provided to police. A short time later, RCMP located the pair at a nearby residence. Both were arrested without incident, and all stolen items were recovered.
A 29-year-old woman from Fort McMurray is charged with robbery. A 30-year-old man from Fort McKay faces charges of robbery, carrying a concealed weapon, and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
Both suspects were held for a judicial interim hearing and remain in custody.
They are scheduled to appear in Alberta Court of Justice in Fort McMurray on November 24.
RCMP are reminding the public to report suspicious activity immediately and avoid confronting individuals who may be armed.
