Premier’s Council on the Status of Persons with Disabilities Awards
FORT MCMURRAY — Three members of the Fort McMurray Public School Division community have been recognized with Premier’s Council on the Status of Persons with Disabilities Awards. The honours were announced this week and highlight the achievements of two Grade 11 students and a recent alumnus of Fort McMurray Composite High School.
The awards celebrate individuals and organizations whose leadership improves the lives of people with disabilities. FMPSD says this year’s recipients reflect the values of inclusion, resilience and community impact.
Grade 11 student Quinton Jaycox was honoured for his leadership and involvement at Composite High. Jaycox is enrolled in the school’s Lifeskills Program, focusing on functional academics and employability training. He serves on student council and helps manage the junior varsity boys volleyball and basketball teams. Staff say his enthusiasm and commitment contribute to a positive school environment.
Fellow Grade 11 student Bella Carroll was recognized for her kindness, community spirit and support for classmates. Carroll enjoys classroom baking activities, swimming at MacDonald Island and time with friends and family. FMPSD says she is known for her patience, willingness to help others and desire to encourage more open conversations about disabilities.
Alumnus Walli Abdaal Mohammad, a 2025 graduate, received an award for his dedication to personal growth and community involvement. During his time at Composite High he participated in programs that supported computer literacy and workplace readiness. He has worked at Mary Brown’s for four years and is described as a positive presence who values fairness, respect and inclusion.
FMPSD says the awards underline the importance of building a more inclusive Alberta and that the achievements of Jaycox, Carroll and Mohammad reflect the spirit of the provincial recognition.
