FORT McMURRAY — A sold out holiday photo event at the Fort McMurray International Airport raised $2,000 for Santas Anonymous and turned the terminal into a festive gathering place on Dec. 6.
Families, students and pets visited YMM for the annual Photos with Santa fundraiser, which featured professional portraits with Santa and Mrs. Claus, a sensory friendly photo session, an appearance by Buddy the Elf, live music led by teacher Jessica McIntosh, colouring and face painting stations and seasonal treats.
Money came from photo sales, raffles, a 50 50 draw and support from on site vendors, with all proceeds going to Santas Anonymous. The charity has been run for more than 40 years by students and staff at Father Patrick Mercredi High School to help families facing financial barriers during the holidays.
Airport authority president and CEO Denean Robinson said the turnout showed how meaningful it is when the airport brings the community together as well as connects travellers. Vice principal Meredith Macneill said the partnership gave students a chance to support families while contributing in a community centred setting.
The airport authority thanked students, staff, volunteers, partners, performers and community members for helping create a cheerful event and said YMM is proud to serve as a place for connection and celebration during the holidays.
