FORT McMURRAY — A staff led holiday fundraiser by the Fort McMurray Airport Authority has raised $400 for the Wood Buffalo Food Bank Association as demand for food support continues to rise across the region.
The donation was collected through the airport authority’s annual Team YMM holiday party. The organization covered the cost of staff tickets and invited employees to contribute $10 each to the food bank as a voluntary fundraiser.
Jessica Lipton, manager of marketing and communications for the Fort McMurray Airport Authority, said the initiative is part of the organization’s community investment program and reflects a commitment to giving back to the community it serves.
Food bank usage in the region has increased by 23% over the past year, a trend that has remained consistent since the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Wood Buffalo Food Bank Association supports individuals and families through programs including its traditional hamper and basic shelf programs, a mobile pantry serving rural communities and residents, and its Second Chance Shelves initiative, which offers walk in access to food items nearing their best before dates.
