FORT MCMURRAY— As the year winds down, the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo says several municipal services will see holiday-related adjustments continuing into early January, while snow removal and winter maintenance operations remain active.
All winter maintenance subzones remain relaxed through Jan. 2, allowing crews to focus on higher-traffic routes and school zones while traffic volumes are lower. Snow removal on primary, secondary and tertiary roads continues, with residents advised to watch for temporary no-parking signs. Subzones 3 and 4 are scheduled to become active Jan. 5 through Jan. 9 as operations ramp back up.
Residents who normally receive curbside waste collection on New Year’s Day will see their pickup rescheduled to Saturday, Jan. 3. Bins should be placed at the curb by 7:30 a.m. Collection dates can be confirmed through the online calendar and reminder service.
The municipal landfill, including the public drop-off area, remains closed on Jan. 1 and reopens for regular hours, from 8:15 a.m. to 5:45 p.m., on Jan. 2. The Conklin and Janvier rural transfer stations are also closed on New Year’s Day.
Transit services will operate on a statutory holiday schedule on Jan. 1, with Routes 1, 2 and 6 and Transit On Demand available.
Christmas tree drop-off locations across Fort McMurray remain open until Jan. 15, and municipal officials are encouraging residents to continue using designated sites for disposal.
The Timberlea RCMP detachment front counter reopened Dec. 29, while Bylaw Services resume normal operations following holiday closures. Municipal offices will be closed again on Jan. 1.
Officials are also reminding residents to drive to winter conditions, particularly on the Fort Chipewyan Winter Road, which remains open to light vehicles under 5,000 kilograms. The La Loche Winter Trail remains closed.
More information on municipal services, winter maintenance and holiday schedules is available through Pulse or at the municipality’s website.
