FORT McMurray Alberta – Winter roads across the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo remain open heading into a warmer weekend, with temperatures expected to climb above the freezing mark through the weekend and into next week.
The Fort Chipewyan Winter Road is currently open to vehicles weighing up to 15,000 kilograms. Meanwhile, officials say that starting today, the vehicle load limit for the La Loche Winter Trail is increasing to 27,500 kilograms.
Municipal officials are reminding drivers that heavy vehicles must stay off winter roads until higher load limits are officially approved. Allowing heavier vehicles too early can cause damage to the road surface, creating serious safety hazards and potentially delaying future increases to load limits.
Drivers are encouraged to monitor conditions closely and follow posted restrictions as temperatures fluctuate.
