EDMONTON — Alberta’s finance minister says a new collective agreement has been reached between Alberta Health Services and tens of thousands of health care support workers, concluding major health sector bargaining for this round.
Treasury Board President and Finance Minister Nate Horner said Thursday the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees has finalized an agreement covering general support services workers employed by Alberta Health Services, provincial health agencies and provincial health corporations.
The deal applies to about 31,000 workers in a wide range of health care roles across the province.
Horner said the agreement includes wage increases in line with other public sector settlements, along with improved benefits for general support services employees.
He thanked both the employer and the union for reaching the deal and acknowledged the role support staff play in Alberta’s health care system.
Horner said the agreement brings collective bargaining to a close with the province’s major health sectors for the current round of negotiations, adding that the deal provides stability for Albertans and represents a significant investment in the health care system.
