FORT MCMURRAY — Winter snow removal operations will be active in maintenance subzones 1 and 2 next week, with on-street parking restrictions in effect across parts of the city.
The Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo says subzones 1 and 2 will be active from Feb. 9 to Feb. 13, with no on-street parking permitted between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. Vehicles left in active subzones or in areas marked with temporary no parking signs may receive a $120 ticket and could be towed at the owner’s expense.
The municipality says winter maintenance will continue in subzones 3 and 4 during the next scheduled activation, expected from Feb. 16 to Feb. 20.
Back-alley snow removal is also continuing across Fort McMurray, with crews prioritizing alleys used for garbage and recycling collection.
Temporary no parking signs are posted 24 hours in advance of scheduled snow removal. After that period, vehicles must be removed until the signs are taken down.
Crews are also scheduled to remove snow this weekend from sections of busier streets in Thickwood, Timberlea and downtown. Residents are advised to watch for temporary no parking signs in those areas on Feb. 7 and Feb. 8.
The municipality says snow removal has now been completed once on all streets included in the winter maintenance zone program. Crews will continue maintenance and additional snow removal in all zones as conditions require.
With all winter maintenance zone streets having received an initial round of snow removal, the municipality says its percentage progress tracker will be discontinued, with regular weekly updates continuing throughout the season.
Residents can check the status of winter maintenance zones through municipal updates, digital signs at neighbourhood entrances or by contacting Pulse.
