EDMONTON — With Family Day just around the corner, the Alberta Legislature is inviting families to spend the holiday at the Legislature grounds with a full day of free activities, performances and interactive programming.
The Legislative Assembly of Alberta will host its annual Family Day celebration on Monday, Feb. 16, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Events will take place in the Legislature Building, the Legislature pedway and the Queen Elizabeth II Building Visitor Centre.
Speaker of the Legislative Assembly Ric McIver said the event is an opportunity to celebrate family, community and connection while showcasing local entertainment.
Organizers say the Queen Elizabeth II Building will feature family-friendly interactive programming throughout the day, including magic shows, circus acts, music and dance performances. The space will also include a LEGO Zone and access to the Visitor Centre’s Borealis Gallery, Pehonan Theatre, Capital Gifts and the Democracy Discovery Centre.
A third activation space has been added this year in the Legislature pedway, offering roving entertainers and activity centres.
Scheduled performers include magician Ron Pearson, children’s entertainer Seeka Sings, Canadian Grand Master Fiddle Champion Daniel Gervais, Jojo’s Magic Circus and dance group Tempo Franco Danse.
Families can also participate in guided open house tours of the Legislature Building, hands-on activities with Zuma Crafts and Storytime sessions led by Naomi McIlwraith and Sarah Louise Hudson.
All events are free and open to the public. On-site parking will be limited, and visitors are encouraged to use public transit.
A full schedule and additional event details are available on the Legislative Assembly of Alberta website.
