FORT McMURRAY — Firefighters rescued two dogs from a burning home in the Timberlea neighbourhood early Saturday evening.
Regional emergency officials say crews were called to a house fire on Fireweed Crescent shortly before 5:30 p.m. after a report to the Regional Emergency Services 911 Dispatch Centre.
Two pumper crews and an aerial ladder unit responded, along with EMS paramedics and RCMP. When firefighters arrived, flames were visible through ground-floor windows and the front patio area was heavily involved.
Crews entered the home to attack the fire while search teams conducted an interior sweep. Two dogs were found and safely removed from the building.
The fire was brought under control just before 6:30 p.m., with firefighters remaining on scene until after 8 p.m. to fully extinguish hot spots.
No one was inside the home at the time of the fire and no injuries were reported. The house sustained extensive fire, water and smoke damage.
Fire investigators were on scene Saturday evening and returned Sunday. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
