January 28th the Wood Buffalo Native Youth Hockey Club Sponsorship Appreciation BBQ in Fort McKay
FORT McKAY — Fort McKay First Nation has been recognized by the Wood Buffalo Native Youth Hockey Club for its ongoing support of Indigenous youth hockey in the region.
The club hosted a sponsorship appreciation barbecue in Fort McKay on Jan. 28 to thank supporters for the 2025 season. The organization sends Indigenous youth from across the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo, including Fort McKay, to compete at the Alberta Native Youth Hockey Provincials each year.
Fort McKay First Nation was presented with a plaque featuring all 2025 teams, along with a framed Wood Buffalo Native Youth Hockey jersey, in recognition of its continued contributions to youth sport and recreation.
Councillor Bouchier accepted the recognition on behalf of the First Nation. Also involved with the club are Fort McKay First Nation member Shay Laurent, who serves as a director on the board, and Darrel Laboucan from Protective Services. Simon Adams, director of Community Services, was unable to attend but was acknowledged for his consistent support of youth and recreation programs.
The Alberta Native Youth Hockey Provincials are scheduled to take place in April.
