FORT McMURRAY — An 18-year-old man has been charged after a firearm-related call at Frank Spragins High School prompted a police response and subsequent search warrant in the northern Alberta community.
Wood Buffalo RCMP said officers were called to the school around 2:42 p.m. on Feb. 11 after receiving a report that a student had brought a firearm to the building.
Police responded with assistance from the Alberta RCMP Real Time Operations Centre. Alberta RCMP Air Services and the Emergency Response Team were activated and en route as officers attended the scene.
Mounties said the suspect was located upon arrival and taken into custody without incident. No firearm was found at the school.
Following further investigation, RCMP obtained and executed a search warrant at a residence in Fort McMurray. Police said a replica firearm was seized.
Anthony White, 18, of Fort McMurray, is charged with uttering threats, common nuisance and conveying false messaging.
White was brought before a justice of the peace and remanded into custody. He is scheduled to appear in the Alberta Court of Justice in Fort McMurray on Feb. 18.
Police said the investigation remains ongoing.
