TORONTO — Alberta’s minister of energy and minerals and Fort McMurray Lac La Biche MLA Brian Jean is set to speak at a policy forum in Toronto on March 2, 2026, linking small modular reactors with critical mineral strategy.
Jean joins Ontario Energy and Mines Minister Stephen Lecce and New Brunswick Deputy Premier and Energy Minister René Legacy at the event, held alongside the Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada convention.
The forum, titled Powering the Future: SMRs, Critical Minerals and Energy Security, is hosted by the Canadian Association of Small Modular Reactors and the SMR Forum.
Organizers say discussions will focus on deploying advanced nuclear technology in mining, remote operations and heavy industry, while strengthening domestic and allied fuel cycle and critical mineral supply chains.
Participants are also expected to examine regulatory clarity, capital formation and policy coordination aimed at reducing investment risk.
Erveina Gosalci, founder of CASMR and chief executive of the SMR Forum, says nuclear development and critical minerals strategy are structurally linked and central to long term economic competitiveness.
The event takes place at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre during PDAC 2026. Media were invited to attend.
