FORT McMURRAY — A Fort McMurray man has been charged after a robbery at a downtown liquor store in which a suspect allegedly threatened an employee with a bottle and later brandished a machete.
Wood Buffalo RCMP say officers responded shortly after 9 a.m. on March 6 to a report of a robbery at Mr. Liquor in the 9000 block of King Street.
Police say a man allegedly stole a bottle of liquor and raised it in a threatening manner when confronted by an employee. Officers say the suspect was removed from the store and then brandished a machete before fleeing the scene on foot.
The employee was not physically injured.
Mounties say the suspect was identified through video surveillance and arrested a short time later without incident.
Kirkland Alex Lettice, 26, of Fort McMurray is charged with robbery, three counts of theft, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and uttering threats.
Lettice was remanded into custody following a judicial interim hearing and is scheduled to appear in Alberta Court of Justice in Fort McMurray on March 16.
