Imagine winning the biggest singing competition on TV… launching a massive music career… winning Grammys… and still waiting for your prize car to show up 24 years later.

When Kelly Clarkson won the very first season of American Idol back in 2002, it launched her into a huge music career. But according to Clarkson, one of the prizes she was promised never actually showed up… the car.
She recently shared that at the time, getting that car would have really helped because her own vehicle had been damaged and she couldn’t afford the deductible to fix it. But the prize car? It never arrived.
What makes the story even funnier is that she later found out Season 2 runner-up Clay Aiken got a car… and so did his mom.
Clarkson also said the famous “$1 million prize” wasn’t exactly a giant cheque either. It was more like money meant to help launch the winner’s career.
Of course, things worked out just fine for Clarkson, but more than 20 years later, she jokes she’s still technically waiting for that car.
