FORT McMURRAY — A 38-year-old man from Beaumont, Alta., is facing multiple charges after a dangerous driving incident and collision in Fort McMurray earlier this week.
Wood Buffalo RCMP say officers were called around 6:05 p.m. on March 17 to a report of a suspected impaired driver involved in a crash at Highway 63 and Airport Road, also known as Highway 69.
Police say a blue 2022 Dodge Ram pickup collided with a white Ford F-250. When officers arrived, the suspect vehicle fled northbound on Highway 63 at a high rate of speed.
Mounties say the driver was seen travelling into oncoming traffic before entering a business parking lot on Mackenzie Boulevard, where the vehicle became stuck.
Officers arrested the driver without further incident. No injuries were reported in the initial collision.
Dustyn Cunningham, 38, is charged with flight from police, refusing to comply with a demand, failure to stop after an accident and dangerous operation of a vehicle.
He was held for a judicial interim release hearing and has since been released. He is scheduled to appear in Alberta Court of Justice in Fort McMurray on April 15.
RCMP are reminding the public to report suspected impaired drivers or other dangerous activity by calling 911.
