Vista Ridge Ice Rink Facebook Post
FORT McMURRAY — Vista Ridge has closed its ice rink for the remainder of the season following what it describes as significant vandalism to the facility.
In a post to its social media channels, the ski hill said the damage occurred recently and was severe enough to require extensive repairs, forcing an early end to the skating season.
“It is with a heavy heart that we announce the immediate closure of the ice rink for the remainder of the season,” the post reads, adding the decision was made to ensure patron safety and protect equipment.
Wood Buffalo RCMP confirm they are investigating.
Police say officers received a complaint of mischief on March 25 at about 9:30 a.m., with reports indicating the damage occurred between 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. on March 23. Investigators say unknown suspects caused significant property damage to the ice rink.
RCMP are asking anyone with information to contact police or Crime Stoppers.
Harvard Media News reached out to Vista Ridge for further details, but the facility declined to elaborate due to the ongoing investigation.
“At this stage, we have reported the incident to the RCMP, and it remains an active investigation. For that reason, we will not be making any further comments or providing details on the extent of the damage or our insurance process,” general manager Bernice said in an email.
The facility says updates will be shared through its official social media channels as they become available.
