FORT MCMURRAY — Seasonal load limits will be introduced on several municipal gravel roads starting April 7 as spring thaw conditions begin to affect road stability.
The Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo says weight restrictions will be reduced to 75 per cent of gross vehicle weight on affected roads. The limits will remain in place until gravel roads are fully thawed and dried.
The restrictions apply to several routes, including West Road in Conklin, Stoney Mountain Crossover and Stoney Mountain Road, Tower Road in Fort McMurray, Aostra Road west of Suncor off Highway 63, and True North Road.
Officials say additional measures, such as reduced axle weights, may also be implemented depending on conditions.
Motorists are being advised to follow all posted signage and adjust driving to seasonal road conditions to help protect infrastructure and ensure safety.
Gross vehicle weight refers to the maximum licensed weight of a vehicle, including cargo and any attached trailers.
