FORT McMURRAY — Residents in the Wood Buffalo region are being encouraged to take part in a community cleanup effort aimed at tidying neighbourhoods, parks and public spaces following the winter season.
The Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo says volunteers of all ages can register for the program, either individually or in groups, and take part in one or multiple cleanup sessions.
Participants can request supplies when registering, while available, and are asked to report collected waste for pickup after completing their cleanup.
The municipality says the initiative is part of broader efforts to maintain community spaces and encourage local involvement.
A kickoff event is scheduled for May 14 at Kiyām Community Park, running from noon to 1:30 p.m., marking the start of the region-wide cleanup campaign.
Officials say the event will offer an opportunity for residents to connect while contributing to community beautification, with supplies provided on site and no pre-registration required.
